Quick access to Guided Journals from the Library

You can now quickly browse and select shortlisted Templates, Prompts, and the day's Discover Daily directly from a new journal entry. We've heard from you that finding resources in the Library can feel overwhelming or lengthy at times, so this is the first step in making guided resources more accessible. Right now, you'll find Editor's Picks Prompts and Templates that have been curated by us, but there will be more options such as 'Recently Used' coming soon. Tap on the round + button to create a new entry and then tap the 'Guided Journals' button to view the shortlisted resources.

Daily and Weekly Streaks for consistent, yet flexible journaling

Consistent journal writing is an incredibly valuable practice for helping us live our best lives, but integrating the practice into our lives and continuing to journal regularly can be challenging at times. To help you (and us) be more consistent and build a lifelong habit, we have added a Streak tracking feature to Clearful, which can be viewed in the new Today tab.

Having both daily and weekly streak tracking offers flexibility as we know that some individuals want to build a daily journaling practice, while others feel more comfortable with weekly journaling. A weekly streak can encourage one to reflect on their life consistently without feeling the pressure to have to do it every day.

Small bug fixes and design improvements

Your daily reminders now update automatically to your current timezone. Thanks, daylight savings time! Removing a Rediscover entry now updates immediately in Today. Clearer and more descriptive copy throughout the app. Several other design updates and bug fixes.

Home becomes Today

Now, your home base in Clearful is Today. See today's entries, today's stats (number of entries and words written), your streaks, the day's Discover Daily question, and your Rediscover entries to reflect on from the past. More exciting things to come in Today in the near future!

'Recently Used' Templates & Prompts

Your three most recently used Templates and Prompts will be available for quick-use directly in every new entry. Tap on 'Guided Journals' in a new entry to see them.

'Skip' Discover Daily & Improved Design

You can now see the Discover Daily question directly in Today (without having to open it first) and skip it if it doesn't appeal to you that day. The Daily itself has also been redesigned.

Redesigned Rediscover entries

Rediscover has been redesigned to look and function just like your Entries - vertically scrollable (rather than horizontally) and in day-groups. It's now easier to see and open all Rediscover entries for a particular time period.

October 2020

Biometric Authentication (FaceID, TouchID)

You can now use FaceID or TouchID (on iOS) or Fingerprint (Android) to securely access your journal when you're already logged in and the app is in the background. This is a nice additional piece of security that ensures that Clearful can't be opened even if someone uses your device when it is unlocked. To enable, go to Settings > Security Lock.

Just in time for Halloween... Dark Mode!

To enhance the journal writing and reading experience in low-light environments and give your eyes some rest, we've added dark mode support for iOS and Android with a new darker color palette. Clearful will automatically match your phone's system appearance/theme preferences, or you can manually change to the Light or Dark theme. Go to Settings > Appearance / Theme in the app to view your preferences in Clearful. To view your phone's settings, on iOS go to Settings > Display & Brightness, or on Android go to Settings > Display > Theme.

Launched for Android phones

Clearful is now available for Android phones in the Google Play Store. If you have an Android phone, you can download the app here. Give it a try! If you have questions or feedback, please contact us at We're always interested in hearing how we can make Clearful better!

Stay in the loop with 'What's New'

See all the latest Clearful feature releases, product improvements, bug fixes, and announcements directly from the app. Go to Settings > What's New to be taken to this page and learn about all the exciting things we're introducing to Clearful.

Small bug fixes and design improvements

A few small bugs were addressed and many small design improvements were made to improve the experience of using Clearful.

Added privacy with secure blocking in multitasking mode

In addition to biometric authentication, we've added another privacy enhancement. Secure blocking covers the content of Clearful when viewing your open apps in multitasking mode on your phone.

September 2020

Now available for iOS phones in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand App Stores

For our initial launch we made Clearful available only in the App Stores in the US and Canada. After performing some backend improvements in how we handle different time zones, we are now live in three additional App Stores: United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. If you have an iPhone and live in the UK, Australia, or New Zealand, you can now download the app for iOS! While right now Clearful is only available for iOS users in these regions, we plan to bring it to Android for these regions in the future as well.

New way to provide feedback easily

Getting feedback is incredibly important in helping us understand what challenges our users are facing when journaling as that helps us improve the product and design innovative ways to solve problems. To make giving feedback easier, we added a small icon in the top right corner of several screens in the app that opens a window with a text field for feedback. We look at feedback that's coming in daily, so please don't hesitate to let us know how we can improve your journaling experience!

Support for 24-hour time

We added support for a 24-hour clock which is the standard in many countries. Clearful will support the system settings that a user's phone is set to, whether that is a 12-hour clock or a 24-hour clock. Things like the time on journal entries and time picker will automatically adjust to the system settings. This was an essential update as we make plans to launch Clearful is more regions.

Bug fixes

A few small bugs were fixed for issues with copy and paste in journal entries and text scaling on the 'Create an Account' screen.

Help us keep improving

We’re looking for feedback on your experiences in using Clearful, as well as journaling in general. We'd like to learn how you journal, what challenges you face, and what you're looking to get out of journal writing.

Your input will help inform our roadmap over the next year and beyond. If you're interested in helping, please email us at
